Bringing regulated euro-denominated digital money to Xahau

What EURQ is.

EURQ is a euro-denominated digital currency issued by Quantoz Payments B.V. According to Quantoz, it is a MiCA electronic money token with safeguarded backing and redemption at par against Quantoz, which is supervised by De Nederlandsche Bank.

EURQ is live on Xahau. INFTF collaborated with Quantoz on bringing it to the ledger, announced on 30 October 2025. Quantoz is the issuer and is responsible for issuance and redemption.

Issued currency on Xahau.

On Xahau, issued value is a ledger primitive: trust lines, holder authorisation and issuer controls attach to the asset rather than being rebuilt in an application contract. The issuer remains the legal source of the money, and which controls apply – authorisation, freeze, clawback – is part of the issuer’s regulated operating model.

What institutions need to assess.

A regulated euro on a financial ledger can serve as a settlement and treasury instrument: institutional transfer, controlled accounts and reconciliation against a shared record. Before using it, an institution needs to establish that it can hold, transfer and redeem the asset within its legal and operational requirements, and agree availability and redemption terms with the issuer. A payment flow also needs counterparties that accept the asset, liquidity, a funding model, a domestic payout arrangement and integration with existing systems.

Relation to the Ethiopia corridor.

Quantoz Payments also provides regulated euro e-money for the Europe → Ethiopia institutional settlement corridor. A broadly available regulated euro on Xahau also matters to a second design: the direct, wallet-based remittance model INFTF and Cooperative Bank of Oromia announced in 2024, which depends on the sender being able to hold and send a regulated euro instrument.
